"Voters can choose to give their number one vote to whichever progressive candidate or party they wish without harming the Greens' chances of being elected as long as they give their preferences to the Greens before the major parties," said Socialist Alliance Denison candidate, Alex Bainbridge.
"This is exactly how we recommend people cast their votes on July 20: number one vote to Socialist Alliance then preferences to Greens and other progressive candidates and finally Labor before Liberal and other right wing candidates," said Bainbridge.
"A tight exchange of preferences between progressive candidates is more important than a number one vote for the Greens," said Bainbridge.
"We are appealing to the Greens to advise their supporters to give their preferences to Socialist Alliance in the same way that we recommend that our preferences go to the Greens. This will maximise both our chances of being elected," said Bainbridge.
"Socialist Alliance needs number one votes in order to make an impact, however the Greens can still be elected on our preferences," said Bainbridge.
"The Socialist Alliance is a party that does not make deals that sacrifice our principles. We would never even consider supporting the privatisation of Telstra in order to save forests for instance. Every person who gives their number one vote to Socialist Alliance increases the chances that the Greens will think twice before considering such deals in the future," said Bainbridge.
