"We are delighted to announce the most ambitions socialist campaign ever for a Tasmanian state election," said Socialist Alliance candidate Alex Bainbridge in response to the publication of the election date.
"We will be running six socialist candidates across three seats. This is unprecedented as far as we are aware, even going back to the days when the old Communist Party stood candidates," said Bainbridge.
Socialist Alliance candidates will be:

AEU member, pro-refugee activist
Shua Garfield - 21, Tas Uni

Glenn Shields - 40, anti-Southwood campaigner,
Franklin resident for 17 years
Brian Millar - 56, worker in the K&D timber yard, SDA member,
father of three
Kamala Emanuel - 32, Family Planning and Aboriginal
Health doctor, pro-choice campaigner
Sonja Montaigne - 34, translator/
interpreter, mother of one
"I am proud to be running for the Socialist Alliance," said anti-Southwood campaigner Glenn Shields.
"I never thought I would join another political party again," said Shields who was previously a member of the ALP. "I'm running for the Socialist Alliance because this is the party that stands for the issues that come closest to my own beliefs. I have seen from my own experience the role played by Alliance members in supporting campaigns such as the campaign against Southwood, as well as taking a stand for workers, indigenous people and refugees."
